CBSE adds value education with almost
all subjects including Mathematics and Sciences

Expressing great concern over increasing rate of crimes and corruption in the country, NCERT has decided strengthening intuitive lessons on value education from the current session. In order to achieve the above stated objectives, teachers leading principled life are to be appointed shortly to disseminate values and ethics. In physical sciences like Physics, Chemistry and Biology, moral message hidden in the questions shall be framed for assessment of different level of understanding the moral and ethical value of the students in examinations. With links of some specimen questions in these disciplines have been provided by the Board in its circular recently issued.

CBSE’s Drive to introduce Open Book Exams for classes IX and XII

CBSE has recently introduced and now being implemented the Open Book Examination or Pre-Announced Test (PAT) that bears 20% weightage for the final examinations of secondary classes including class-XI from the current academic session & for the Board Exams of class-XII for the session 2014-15. The questions in very examination are meant to examine the ability of a student in tackling the problems implied there from through Case Studies. Material in advance but not textbooks is allowed to students. For senior secondary classes, it is confined to only 4 subjects i.e. Biology, Economics, Geography and a language but in case of secondary classes, it comprises all subjects including Mathematics, Social Science, Science and Languages.

Chances Reduced to one for Sec. and
three for Sr. Sec to clear Board Exams

Vineet Joshi, the Chairman, CBSE has recently stated that from the current session, chances for improvement have been reduced to three for class XII and only one for class X. It is worth noticeable that there were given five chances so far for improvement until the end of the preceding session i.e. 2011-2012. It has been further stated that amended rules will apply only for students who have attended Board Exams for 2013-14. It means students who have attended exams in March, 2013 shall fall in the ambit of one and three chances not the five chances in X and XII respectively.

Chapters on Road Safety Norms for Students from Classes VI to X

NCERT has recommended some road safety lessons for students of classes VI to X for the current session in compliance with the curriculum draft sent by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently. Students of the abovementioned classes will now read a chapter on road safety in each of four subjects i.e. Social Science, English, Mathematics and Hindi. These will educate students on traffic management, traffic rules, signage, traffic hazards, and safety on roads, highway codes, and school bus codes among others.

on ‘Human rights & Gender Studies’ and also
‘Theatre Studies’ have been introduced
by the Board

To what extent, pedagogies in India will achieve its aims of educating all, is obscure but it is true that CBSE has introduced Two New Courses i.e. ‘Human rights & Gender Studies’ and ‘Theatre Studies’ for class XI from the current session of 2013-14. These are elective subjects with any combination of three other electives and a language. As per marking scheme devised, there shall be given 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for project on case study and viva –voice. Some objectives to introduce Human rights and Gender Studies are- to strengthen respect for human rights, gender and fundamental freedoms, to ensure holistic development of human personality and sense of its dignity, to promote understanding, tolerance, gender equality and to enable all persons to participate effectively in a free, just and more humane society. As per Board’s experiment on perception, Theatre Studies will reinforce sophisticated communication of modernity with careers in film industry.

CBSE has introduced NCC and
Legal Studies Optional Elective
Subjects for Senior Secondary Classes

With its couple of circulars, the CBSE has introduced pilot courses of NCC and Legal Studies as optional elective subjects for senior secondary classes i.e. for XI and XII. The objective of introduction of NCC as optional subject is to expose the young dynamic youth towards serving the nation by adopting various learning’s from the stream of NCC. The outcome is expected in development of character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country. In the similar fashion, the objective of introduction of Legal Studies is to broaden career opportunities for students as law officer and legal executive in various companies. Only 20 schools introduced from this month.
